The artist Jesse Potts and PRACTICE welcomes participants to create a montage while a single-board microcontroller activates a pulley that will slowly reveal a line-drawing.
Wayward Burn features a single installation composed of two simultaneous actions facilitated by the artist Jesse Potts. In one action, physical visitors to the gallery will be invited to pick up and arrange post-it notes that once composed a single photograph behind a gallery wall but have gradually fallen. Unlike a jigsaw puzzle, this image will not need to be put back together correctly but can be adhered to the gallery walls in any way a patron sees fit. The second action will be completed by slowly moving robots as an arduino works with a pulley to tear the wall to reveal an image.
About the Artist:Jesse Potts was born in Harrisburg, PA and is currently Assistant Professor of Art in the Department of Sound, Performance and Visual Inquiry at the University of Maine at Farmington. He received his BFA from Alfred University in 2005 and his MFA from the Department of Sculpture + Extended Media, at Virginia Commonwealth University In 2012. Mr.Potts has been an artist in residence at the I-A-M residency in Berlin, Germany, The European Ceramic Work Centre, s’-Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands, Cité Internationale des Arts, Paris, France, and The Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT. His work has been included in exhibitions both nationally and internationally and reviewed by Hyperallergic and the New York Times.
