The Citywide Life Raft Debate
2013 November
The Citywide Life Raft DebateThursday, November 21st, from 7-9pmat Temple Contemporary
In The Life Raft Debate, a concept originated by the University of Montevallo, we imagine that a massive flood is coming to Philadelphia that threatens to destroy life as we know it. With somehow only one life raft available, eight of the artist collectives in CITYWIDE: A Collective Exhibition will send one representative to make their case for survival to the assembled audience. At the end of the debate, the audience will vote for one collective to climb aboard the life raft, and rebuild our society after the flood. WHO WILL YOU DECIDE TO SAVE?
The collectives hoping to climb aboard will be Art/Assembly, Basekamp, Grizzly Grizzly, Little Berlin, McCartney/Belknap Projects, Practice, Rebekah Templeton, and Vox Populi. Making the Devil's Advocate argument, that none of the collectives should be saved, will be the Nicola Midnight St. Clair's Matt Kalasky. To reserve your free seat in the boat, visit TempleContemporary.orgThe Citywide Life Raft DebateThursday, November 21st, from 7-9pmat Temple ContemporaryPRACTICEOur gallery practice seeks to support artist practices that focus on performance, participation and experimentation.PRACTICE is open to the public on First Fridays and on Saturdays from 2-6pm.
