First Friday Opening Reception, Friday, April 5, 6-9pm
Practice is honored to present Simona Prives installation, towards the noise of dark waters, from April 5-28. Please join us for the opening on April 5th from 6-9pm. We look forward to seeing you!
Simona Prives composes immersive video installations that offer a multi-sensorial construction of reality. Presented in life-sized projections, each moving image begins with collage, incorporating densely layered drawings, ink paintings, and multiple forms of printmaking and photography (both hand-shot and found).
In this installation for Practice, Simona animates her collages in an immersive experience, bringing us inside a recurring process of construction and fragmentation. The work is a dialectic of growth and decay, examining humanity's complex relationship with the environment. Each collage is drawn, composed of disassembled and reconfigured maps, geological patterns, and industrial imagery breeding new worlds that are somehow familiar yet abstract. Each collage layers stop-motion drawings, paintings, hand shot video and archival film footage. The work is a dynamic choreography between the audience, video animations and sound compositions.
