Salt has been used by almost every culture in rituals of protection and purification. Salt can safeguard and preserve, yet in excess, it corrodes and destroys. Symbolically, insects have long been a associated with regeneration and renewal. Roaches are survivors. The hundreds of bodies populating this installation have been individually formed by hand in an act representing their generative exuberance. In their holiness, these tiny bits of matter and energy flourish in quantum bloom. Linda Swanson’s Quantum Bloom plays with the conceptual and perceptual charge of material.ABOUT THE ARTISTLinda Swanson is an artist whose interests are grounded in the metamorphic nature of ceramic materials and processes. Her work engages the enigmatic properties of matter at an elemental level and the capacity of wonder to question how and what we know. Her raw and kiln fired ceramic works have been exhibited around the United States, Canada and in France. Recent exhibitions include Rooted in Soil at the DePaul Museum, Flow at the Milwaukee Art Museum, SOFA Chicago with the Lacoste Gallery and INFESTATION.
