SAD Spa: Springboard Collective
On view Feb. 2nd – 25th 2018 Opening Reception: First Friday, Feb. 2nd 6pm – 10pm#SAD?
In these sad times, join Springboard Collective for an early Spring on Groundhog Day!! Featuring a tanning bed, DIY tanning stickers, UV reactive materials that tan any object, and live performances, will you see a shadow?
You just might!
Throughout the evening, Springboard Collective invites you to opt in for a quick tanning sesh at the SAD Spa. Who knows - the tan line from your sticker may predict the outcome of your own psychological winter. SAD Spa also offers traditional Seasonal Affective Disorder treatments like light box therapy, antidepressants, and a glowing after party. The spa is open for free sessions all month during gallery hours or by appointment.
Springboard Collective transforms images and objects into humorous and collaborative installations. Their socially-engaged and inclusive events puts the audience as the performer and experimenter. Questioning popular signs and how we interact with them, participants reveal individual tastes and values. Springboard Collective formed in Athens, Ohio, and is currently based in Queens NY. Their projects have included sacrificial deep frying of objects, and immersive installations, such as a sixty-five foot limousine. The collaboration is co-directed by Sarah Dahlinger, Micah Snyder and Danny Crump.
