Adam Diller: Project 02

Runs from Nov.5th- Dec 18th. Reception: Nov. 5th 6-10pm

Project 02 explores new economic, logistical, and ecological formulations produced by Google’s first hyperscale data center—built in 2006 in The Dalles, Oregon. The novel model of computation implemented by Google in The Dalles produces new material/discursive practices that are critical to this Internet. Project 02 uses photographs, video, and sound works collected from site visits and government archives to connect Google’s work to prior Indigenous and settler infrastructures in the region, drawing out layerings of sovereignties, histories, presents, and futures critical to understanding this land and the data center’s relations to it.

Adam Diller’s film, audio, and installation works explore more-than-human ecologies through a practice informed by phonography, critical geography, and landscape film. He has exhibited in venues including Anthology Film Archives (New York), Interfilm (Berlin), Kassel Documentary Film and Video Festival (Kassel), Athens International Film and Video Festival, Northwest Film Forum (Seattle), Knitting Factory (New York), Roulette (New York), Issue Project Room (New York), Sugar Refinery (Vancouver, BC), D-22 (Beijing), JZ Club (Shanghai), CHOP (Tokyo), London International Documentary Film Festival, Big Sky Documentary Film Festival (Missoula, MT), Seattle Improvised Music Festival, Center on Contemporary Art (Seattle), Susquehanna Museum of Art (Harrisburg, PA), and Martin Art Gallery (Allentown, PA). He has released recordings on labels including Line (12K), Locust Music, DRAFT, Gift Tapes, and Present Sounds. His writing has been published in The Journal of Cinema and Media Studies, Studies in Documentary Film, and In Media Res.
